This Sunday, I was listening to Dr. Charles F. Stanley... The topic was: "The devestating effects of living in bondage to self-rejection. To learn how to break free today".The message I got was "why do we worry about what other people think or say about us?"
It's not mind over matter, it's "truth" over error! We should not concern ourselves about what people say or think about us. What matters is what God says about us. God says "I will never leave you or forsake you". We mean so much to God that He didn't send a bunch of angels to save us, He came Himself and when He left, He said "Im going to go, but I will send you a helper who will dwell in you (the Holy Spirit). Therefore, if God puts so much value in us to send His one and only Son to save us, why do we waste our time and energy worrying about what people say or think about us?
The peace of God can dwell in us and overcome the challenges of this world, but it's our choice to accept His peace which is above and beyond our understanding. Or we can turn to the peace and comfort that this world provides which is based on feelings/emotions/materials/money and it's short-lived. True comfort, courage and peace only comes from our Lord Jesus Christ.
